Drip coffee makers are often seen as the bottom-rung of coffee makers. They are just cheap, easy ways to make coffee at home in the most hands-off way possible, and the brew they do produce is regarded as…weak. Subpar. But hold on. The Technivorm Moccamaster is here to change your opinion about drip coffee makers.
Created and crafted in the Netherlands, the Moccamaster is made from sleek stainless steel, quality glass, with copper tubing. What plastic there is, is solid and high-quality. The stainless steel thermal carafe keeps your coffee hot for longer, without burning it like so many coffee maker hot plates. And the machine brews a perfect pot of coffee every time. It has a manual-adjust, drip-stop brew-basket that lets you adjust how fast the coffee flows into the pot, and it can brew an entire pot in 6 minutes. Average speed, yes, but the coffee the Moccamaster makes is far better than your Mr. Coffee pot.
It has a copper boiling element that heats the water to the ideal brewing temperature of 196º to 205º F, which gets the perfect extraction without burning and over-extracting. It has an auto-off for when the reservoir is empty, and the cone shape brew-basket is designed to perfectly regulate and time a 6-minute steep. So every pot of coffee you make in this thing is as good as any pour-over you could make yourself.
Sadly, the Moccamaster does lack any programmable features. You’ll have to go through the process of setting it up every morning. And at roughly $300, this isn’t a cheap coffee maker. When you take your morning brew seriously (and your mid-morning brew, and afternoon cup…), price is no obstacle. It even comes with a 5-year warranty. Probably the best drip coffee maker you’ll find anytime soon.
