Benchmades’ First Slipjoint: The 319 Proper

Benchmade 319 Proper Dark Brown Canvas

Slipjoints – folding pocketknives without a lock – are classic, classy and easy-to-use knives, and Benchmade, long a trustworthy name in knife-making, has released a nice, reliable slipjoint in their 319 Proper. Benchmade bills it as a “modern take on a classic gentleman’s knife”, with the look of a classic, old-fashioned jackknife, but with the materials and durability of modern EDC must-haves.

It features a sheepsfoot blade, made from CPM-S30V stainless steel, so as to be rust-free and corrosion proof, and comes with a satin finish.

The handle is made from carbon micarta, available in both a forest green and dark brown canvas. The 319 Proper is the perfect size for a pocket knife – 3.85″ long when closed and 6″ opened, and weights only 2 oz. It’s small enough for everyday carry, but still hefty enough for decent cutting and sawing.

The Proper 319 not have a pocket clip, as it is designed to be as streamlined and classic as possible. It does have a lanyard hole on the end of the handle, for attaching a lanyard or key-ring for convenience.
