When it comes to thru-hiking, the Appalachian Trail gets all the love – as does the Pacific Crest Trail. But not everybody has the means or desire to spend 5-6 months on the trail, leading many people to simply hike sections of it. But people who only stick to these well-trodden trails often miss out on some of the best hiking trails in the country – like Vermont’s Long Trail.
The Grand Canyon is easily one of the 7 Seven Wonders of the Modern World. We're not going to pretend to name all 7, but the Grand Canyon would definitely be included. At 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and at times over a mile deep, it is beyond impressive, and descending down the North Rim one of the must-visit hiking sites any serious backpacker must tackle.
Sometimes choosing a good hike can be tough. Each mountain range, National Forest or region in the US has more than enough to last a lifetime, and it can be tempting to start checking them off in a futile effort to conquer them all. But far and away, there are some trips that are just classics of American backpacking - like the White Mountains' Presidential Traverse.
