Winter Bike Essentials: Northwave Wool Jersey, Bike Shoes, Arctic 2 Gloves

Northwave Winter Cycling Essentials

Just because the mercury has dropped below comfort levels doesn’t mean you have an excuse to stay inside where things are warm and cozy. No – a little cold weather isn’t enough to stop you from getting out on your bike and chewing up some concrete, or even hitting up the trails. You just need to be properly equipped and prepared – and a wool bike jersey is an easy way to do that, which is why we’re reaching for some Northwave gear this winter.

Northwave Fahrenheit Wool Jersey

The Fahrenheit Wool is woven from a dual-layer fabric; the inner layer is a moisture-wicking and heat-trapping polypropylene, while the outer layer is made of wool. Together they keep you warm and dry in chilly weather, regulating body temperature as you exert energy. There’s four-way stretch for comfort and flexibility and the 4-needle flatlock seams keep things low-profile and comfortable.

The cut features a mock turtleneck to trap in heat and keep you toasty warm, and a full-zip design with YKK zipper and camlock puller. There’s also a silicone waist gripper to keep things from riding up on long rides, as well as 3 back pockets and front pocket; both have reflective trim.

The Northwave Fahrenheit Wool offers a sleek and comfortable combination of warmth in the cold, breathability and fast drying during both wet weather and heavy exertion. It’s designed in Italy and ready for cold-weather rides both on the trail and the road, making it an essential part of any winter biking kit.

Extreme 2 RR GTX Winter Cycling Shoes

Northwave calls these shoes the marriage of boots and cycling shoes, and we can see why. They’ve got the sole and build of a shoe, but pair it with a neoprene and ClimaFlex collar for your ankle, providing warmth and protection in cold weather. The whole setup is waterproof and windproof – with Gore-Tex DuraTherm in the shoe and Rattler in the collar, both of which are water-wicking and breathable. They sit on top of an Arctic GTX footbed made of four layers of aluminum and fleece for warmth, as well as Carbon Light sole, which offers a stiffness rating of 10.0 and a carbon/fiberglass construction. Abrasion-resistant rubber offers protection on the upper, while the SLW2 button allows you to release and buckle the strap with a single push, making it easy to put on and take off.

Arctic Evo 2 Gloves Winter Bike Gloves

When winter hits, your hands will be the first place to go numb. Grabbing a pair of Northwave’s Arctic Evo 2’s can help stave that off. With synthetic leather palms padded with gel pads, water and wind-resistant membranes and a DWR finish, they can keep the elements out while the 100G Thinsulate traps heat in, keeping your hands warm during the coldest of cold snaps. Warm fleece cuffs with Velcro closures help with that.

They’re made to work with your phone, with a touchscreen-compatible thumb and index finger as well. Other handy features include a microfiber sweat wipe on the thumb and a reflective print on the back, helping enhance visibility.
