04 Dec WoodandRoot Automation Clocks–Captivating Our Interest in Time
There is something about time pieces that hook us. Whether it is a well-designed wrist watch, a unique time piece, or a wall clock, the intricate inner works are captivating. WoodandRoot have capitalized on our amazement of clock operation. WoodandRoot travel the world (but mainly around their workshop near Moscow) looking for wood and roots to create automation clocks to mesmerize the world. The results are astonishing.
What defines their “automation clocks”? According to the dictionary, an automaton is a self-operating machine, or a machine or control mechanism designed to follow automatically a predetermined sequence of operations, or respond to predetermined instructions. Even though many of WoodandRoot’s clocks have decorative gears, they are for primarily for style and appearance only. The clocks are battery operated and have quartz components. At first glance, you will be sure they are gear operated–that’s the whole premise of the striking appearance of these clocks.
Some automations, such as bell strikers in mechanical clocks, are designed to give the illusion to the casual observer that they are operating under their own power. Some of the automation clocks expose gears to add character to a room. Other components incorporated into their creations are brass screws, Baltic birch, mirror backs, stained or colored wood, and other interesting components.
Our favorite is probably the unique Industrial Wooden Decorative Steampunk Clock. WoodandRoot also makes desktop models. No matter your style, there is surely one that will catch your eye and anyone else who walks into the room.
