03 Jul Triumph Street Cup: Vintage Style Meets Sporty Racer
The Triumph Street Cup is a classic-looking street bike, based on the Bonneville Thruxton, but smaller and just a little bit less powerful. It’s got a 900cc with 8-valve single overhead camshaft parallel twin that powers directly into a five-speed gearbox. It’s also got array of cool features such as ride-by-wire, switchable traction control, ABS, and torque-assist clutch. It’s also got twin upswept satin black and stainless steel silencers that give it some sweet sound. Nissin twin 2-piston front calipers and floating disc brakes give it smooth, responsive braking time.
The outside has the look of a vintage cafe racer, with the body of the friendly Street Twin but with some totally modern features, like a bullet seat, removable cafe racer seat cowl and color-matched fly screen. Bar-end mirrors with forged arms top off the handlebars, while Thruxton R footpegs add sporty looks. The instruments are made from vintage brushed aluminum, and the tank has a handsome, classic shape. You can also choose from over 120 bolt-on accessories in the Triumph catalog to bring some of your own custom style to the bike.
The Street Cup looks like it’s made for the street, and it’s got the handling and agility to go with it. The riding position is very low but forward, which gives it a nice balance between an aggressive sport bike with superior control, and a more relaxed, laid-back position with smooth comfort.
Overall, the Street Cup may not look like much more than a large cafe racer – or a larger Street Twin – but it promises to be so much more. It’s a relatively powerful and agile bike that is both perfectly quintessential and perfectly modern.
