By now, we’ve seen bikes built out of just about anything; steel, carbon fiber, aircraft-grade aluminum, and even wood – that’s not anything revolutionary. But there’s never been a bike made out of whiskey casks before. Renovo, based out of Portland, has been pioneering the world of modern wooden bicycles, and they’ve just come up with the Renovo Glenmorangie Original, a gorgeous road bike made from Glenmorangie whiskey casks.
And we mean gorgeous. Each bike is made from about 15 whiskey casks, perfectly shaped into a hollow frame (Renovo’s specialty) using the barrels natural curves, and finished with a beautiful polish. There are two versions available: the Launch Edition, and the Prestige edition. The Launch Edition features Shimano 6800 Ultegra drivetrains, while Prestige models have Dura Ace 9170 Di2 kits. The wheels are custom built 28h Velocity Aileros, andsStock builds will come with 28mm Vittoria or Schwalbe rubber; tire clearance is 700x40c, which means you take the Glenmorangie offroad onto dirt or gravel paths, too. You can get frame sizes from 52cm to 61cm, as well.
Pretty snazzy, right? The Glenmorangie Original comes at a price of $7000; not quite the $11,000+ that other custom bikes can cost, but still a pretty penny. Each bike is made to order, and should take about 6 weeks from the time you make your ($1000) deposit to delivery. But if you’re a fan of both biking and fine whiskey, the Renovo Glenmorangie might be the perfect way to bring the two together. And did we mention how good it looks?
