27 Sep Conor McGregor is Releasing His Own Whisky: Proper No. Twelve
You know who Conor McGregor is, right? The Irish featherweight mixed-martial-artist-turned-worldwide-phenomenon has apparently caught on to what every other celebrity out there is doing and decided to release his own brand of spirit. Because when everybody’s doing it and you can too, you might as well right? For McGregor, at least, it makes perfect sense; a rowdy Irishman releasing an untamed Irish whisky, deemed Proper No. Twelve.
Created in conjunction with Eire Born Spirits (also coincidentally the world’s oldest distillery), Proper No. Twelve is named after the district in Dublin where McGregor grew up. To get the blend right, they created close to 100 different recipes and blends to find one that worked, before settling in on this blend of Irish grain and smooth Irish whisky. It’s triple-distilled, the traditional way, using first a copper pot still, before a wine still and then a spirit still, creating an 80% whiskey that is then aged in bourbon barrels, where they pick up flavors of vanilla, honey and toasted wood. The final step lies in masterfully blending the Irish grain spirit and single malt together to create the perfect drink.
And perfect, it is. Ultra-smooth and ready to drink anytime, Proper No. Twelve captures the raw spirit that Irish Whisky is known for. And, not-too-coincidentally, Conor McGregor is known for himself. Drink it neat like any good whisky or enjoy it in its signature drink – the Notorious, named after its creator himself.
80 proof and only $25 a bottle. 100% Irish. Doesn’t get much better than that.
