One by one, carmakers are electrifying their lineups – in the most literal sense – by introducing hybrid or even completely electric versions of their most classic vehicles. Porsche is no exception, and they’ve decided to go all-in, turning their sporty, powerful Cayenne Turbo into a hybrid, dubbed the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.
The Cayenne Turbo was already fast, but the new E-Hybrid is no slouch, either. Not with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and 100 kW electric motor, combining for an output of 670 horsepower and 663-pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to propel this vehicle from 0 to 60 time in about 3.6 seconds flat. This is paired with a Tiptronic S transmission and From what we hear, the transition from gas to electric is smooth, and there’s also a built-in “quiet mode” that allows you to run just the electric motor when driving at low speeds. You might even get a full 20 miles out of that electric engine before needing to put the gas back on.
Engines aside, the E-Hybrid is a full-on Porsche Cayenne Turbo, with all the sport-ready features you could expect. This includes Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes that stop on a dime, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control suspension that makes mountain roads feel like driving around town, and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, which helps vary torque distribution to the rear wheels. Throw in the luxurious interior and your choice of Sport or Comfort seats, and the new E-Hybrid is every bit the sporty SUV its regular sibling is.
The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid comes in both standard SUV and shorter Coupe version. Expect it to drop in early 2020.
