1. OMNIBLADE 5-IN-1 CAMPING/HUNTING/SURVIVAL MULTI-TOOL

Every outdoorsman needs a trusty blade – whether that means a simple pocketknife just to begin or a full-fledged outdoor axe that can fell trees (with a bit of work). But while those tools can certainly come in exceedingly handy in several situations…none of them offer the same sheer versatility as the OmniBlade 5-in-1 tool.
The OmniBlade is definitely something we haven’t seen before: a single tool combining a tomahawk-style hatchet, a full-tang kukuri machete, a closed-guard utility knife and a 7” crosscut handsaw all into one single tool, with a multi-purpose cross guard and hammer in the hilt.
A large, unwieldy tool–but legit, nonetheless.
As for materials? This beast of a tool is made from hardened steel. For the first $10k in Kickstarter funding, it was a 429J2 machete grade steel. But when they reached $12.5k in funding, they upgraded that to a 420HC steel for all models; higher-carbon content, sharper edges and better corrosion resistance, but the same price for all involved. And thanks to the $15k+ of backing they’ve received, each Omniblade will come with 18” of paracord as well as handle wrapping instructions.
For survival situations and bushcrafting, however…it might just be the tool to take your arsenal to the next level.
2. KOPIS STK LT

There’s no shortage of handy, versatile, bombproof multitools out there, ranging from the conventional to the surprisingly creative. Whatever design they have, they all manage to pack the essentials tool and blades needed for everyday tasks, and in many cases, to drag yourself out of all kinds of hairy situations. This year, we’re looking at the Kopis STK LT, one of the most compact, integrated and durable multi-tools we’ve ever gotten our hands on.
The STK LT is the newer rendition of the original Kopis STK; that stands for Sliding Tool and Knife. Crafted from 6AL4V Titanium, it looks more like a compact money clip than a knife. And in fact, it’ll function as one, too with a titanium pocket clip on the side that is waterjet cut.
But slide it open, and you’ve got a premium, sharp blade made of 3/16″ Premium S35VN Steel, with two cutting edges; one is designed for most cutting jobs and contains a wire stripper notch, while the other is designed for scraping and push cuts. An unusual touch is the 90-degree corner, which helps with slicing. The 45-degree angled edge serves as both a prybar and a flathead, while the center slot is a wingnut and valve wrench. A bit driver and bottle opener are also carved in.
Slide it shut, and this is a tough, compact tool that you goes in your pocket, on your belt or even strapped to MOLLE webbing on your pack. The titanium build is lightweight but solid, and we think it’ll serve you well for years to come for accomplishing all manner of tasks. Maybe it’ll even save your life once or twice.

Inside the MUT handle is a place to store tool bits, for quick access at any time. The MUT also has the option to replace some of the most popular tools on the knife, using a T8 Torx screwdriver – something you don’t see in a lot of cheaper multi-tools.
If you like to head out on the range, or just enjoy the one-handed functionality, the MUT is the multi-tool for you. And with the Leatherman name attached, you can be sure you’re getting some of the best quality; there’s even the standard Leatherman 25-year policy. It also looks sweet.

7. GERBER DIME TRAVEL KEYCHAIN MULTI-TOOL

Having a functional multi-tool by your side at all times is a necessity. Just ask MacGyver. But if that multi-tool can be ultra-small and fit right on your keychain, even better. The Gerber Dime Travel is a keychain tool designed for travel, that can go anywhere you do – including those situations where blades can’t go, like a plane; there is no blade on this tool.
The Dime Travel measures 4.3” long open and 2.8” closed and weighs only 2.2 ounces. It built entirely from stainless steel. Despite it’s compact size, it features 11 tools – a spring-loaded needlenose plier, regular pliers, wire cutters, tweezers, bottle opener, a file with both coarse and fine edges, a zipper pull hook, scissors, flathead screwdriver, cross driver, and a lanyard. All the basic tools you could need, minus the blade.
While you may miss the blade every once in a while, the added convenience and ability to take the knife with you wherever you go should make up for it. The only tool we’re not really sure about is the zipper puller; unless it’s a seriously heavy-duty zipper, we can’t really think of any reason to take out a tool when pulling hard will break it.
It’s not the toughest multi-tool in the shed, nor the most tricked-out. Don’t expect it to handle the really tough jobs. If you constantly find yourself jetting around and need a multitool that will pass muster with the TSA, it’ll do the trick.

10. 3COIL PUNA CLAIMS TO BE THE WORLD’S SMALLEST MULTI-TOOL

That’s a bold claim; world’s smallest multitool. But we’re almost confident 3Coil can claim the title with the Puna. This tiny little tool really puts the mini in mini multitool. Coming in at about 3” long, super thin, and fitting well within the palm of your hand, the Puna looks like an AR-15 (for some reason) but contains 5 different useful tools: a scalpel blade, bottle opener, screwdriver bit, micro screwdriver, keychain. They use a scalpel blade because of how convenient it is: you can simply replace it as it dulls, and should you find yourself traveling through the airport or other such secure place, simply toss it, buying a new one later.
The Puna is made of stainless steel and comes in a fancy aluminum display case. We hope you’ll keep it firmly hooked to your belt loop or lanyard, however, and not in the case.
But really, it’s that simple. A cool little knife that fits anywhere, has some useful tools, and fits in about half the palm of your hand. You can also grab one of 3Coil’s Crane knives, which is a mini scalpel knife that measures only 2” long, for when you need something practically unnoticeable in your pocket.
11. SHARPAL 6-IN-1 SHARPENER

If the idea of sharpening your pocketknives intimidates you…you’re doing it wrong. EDC enthusiasts and outdoorsmen amongst us know this, but to the less cutlery-inclined, sharpening knives might still conjure up images of whetstones or those giant sharpening rods you scrape your kitchen knives endlessly. So how do you keep it easy? Just opt for the Sharpal 6-in-1 Pocket Knife Sharpener.
This nifty little sharpening tool from California-based Sharpal is a trusty go-to for outdoorsmen and EDC enthusiasts looking to keep their cutting tools in tip-top shape. It also has some essential tools and gadgets built in that you might find handy out on the trail.
Here’s how it works; cut into the top are two sharpening notches, one with tungsten blades for coarse sharpening and working out rough edges, the other with fine ceramic blades for honing that edge perfectly till it can slice through a piece of paper.
But since this is built for outdoor enthusiasts as well…the Sharpal 6-in-1 comes with a a fire starter rod you can pull out and a tapered 400 grit diamond rod boasting grooves for sharpening serrations, gut hooks and fishhooks. There’s also an emergency whistle integrated into the handle. Cool. A nifty little lanyard hole means you can easily hang this bad boy from your cord or pocket.
The 6-in-1 is Sharpal’s top-selling outdoor knife sharpener, and it sure delivers. Just slip it in your pocket or into a pocket on your backpack…and whip it out whenever those blades need some touching. It’ll make the process as easy as 1-2-3…and you can snag one on Amazon for the price of lunch at Chipotle, so you have zero excuses not to use one.
12. 13-IN-1 TITANIUM TOOL FROM BIG IDEA DESIGN

When it comes to EDC pocket tools, anything light, slim and versatile will take the cake over a heavier, bulkier tool – like this 13-in-1 Titanium Tool from Big Idea Design. Despite being only 4mm thin, it is exceptionally low-profile and slim, weighing only .9 oz. Yes, less than an ounce. It’s built from solidGrade 5 Ti titanium, with two blade inserts to choose from – stainless steel and black anodized stainless steel. A 550 paracord loop makes it easy to grab onto.
In addition to the stainless steel inserts, it’s also got a bottle, opener, flat head screwdriver, internal magnet, wide flat head screwdriver, 1/4 hex bit opening, mini pry bar, scraper edge, measurement cues, accepts standard razor blades, and has a universal wrench design with 15 socket sizes. The inserts can double as a fork or boxcutter blade. It’s truly another go-anywhere, do-anything tool. It’s also only 3″ long – barely large than a regular pocket knife, or even a car key.
13. BOKER MULTI-PURPOSE PEN

A good pocket notebook is ideal for jotting down your ideas when inspiration hits on the go, and if one accompanies you everywhere you go, it’s time to invest in a high-quality EDC pen to go with it.
Like the Multi-Purpose Pen from Boker, an EDC pen that does a little more than put ink to paper. Besides looking cool, the magnetic end can be used as a stylus for tablets and smartphones. The tip is capable of breaking through glass in an emergency. Should your find yourself in a jam, it is also designed to double as a kubotan for self-defense. A sturdy pocket clip, attached to the cap, keeps it securely within arm’s reach for use at a moment’s notice, and its titanium construction means it won’t weigh you down and is completely hypo-allergenic (should you, you know, be allergic to other kinds of pens).
BOKER PLUS MULTIPURPOSE EDC PEN SPECS
- Length: 5.91″
- Cap Diameter: 0.55″ / 13.9mm
- Weight: 2 oz.
- Ink Cartridge: Fisher SPR4

14. TELEPEN IS THE SMALLEST EDC PEN

Keeping a writing utensil on you for quick access at all times can come in handy, but if we’re being honest, some of us really don’t want to walk around with a full-size pen in our pocket all the time, or even one clipped to the outside of that pocket. We’d rather have something small and subtle, that’s there when we need it, but gets out of the way when we don’t. We want the True Utility Telepen.
At only 50mm in length at its shortest and 115mm long when fully extended, the Telepen truly is small. It’s small enough, in fact, you can clip it onto your keychain and it will still slide right into your pocket. Machined from 420 stainless steel, it’s lightweight yet sturdy, built for the “rigors” of everyday use on your keychain, in addition to being sleek, stylish and attractive in a space-age kind of way. When it’s time to write, extend it’s telescoping boy and it becomes a capable writing instrument, complete with an ergonomic ball point pen; 3 refill cartridges are included.
For about the price of three cups of coffee, it really is a handy and convenient tool to always have hanging from your keychain. It weighs 14g, which translates to roughly half an ounce. In other words, it weighs practically nothing but makes a great addition to your EDC kit. You won’t be defending yourself from attackers with it or using it to smash windows…but you might say it provides “true” utility. (Sorry, we couldn’t resist).
