Summer is a time to relax. Not just in mind but in style, too; you may spend most of the year hoofing it around in heavy leather boots, but when the weather warms up, it’s time for something light and casual. Sneakers work for the everyday, and boat shoes or loafers are great for sharper occasions.
This year, how about a pair of these all-natural, handmade leather slip-ons from Mohinders?
Mohinders: Traditional Craftmanship + Fine Leather
Mohinders crafts their shoes in rural India, in Karnakata region, where there’s been a shoemaking tradition for hundreds of years. Each Mohinder shoe is handcrafted in the town of Athani at a cooperative comprised of 170 leatherworking families. And each is made with the artisan craftmanship and tradition that they’ve been handing down for centuries.
That craftsmanship and quality is what makes these classy-casual shoes such a treat. The uppers are water buffalo hide, naturally tanned right in Athani. It’s a supple, soft leather that breaks in and molds to your feet the more you wear them, creating a luxuriously comfortable piece of footwear…reminiscent more of your favorite pair of jeans than your leather boots.
The leather upper sits on top of a natural crepe sole, which – along with the cushioned footbed, lined with soft goat leather – creates a cushy, padded step.
Lining the exterior of these City Slip-ons is a leather braid – in the traditional hand-weave cavani method of Indian shoemaking. On the woven City Slipper, the entire upper of the shoe is constructed form that same weave.
Perfect Slip-Ons For Summer
Soft and super classy, Mohinders casual shoes that will keep your feet just as cool and comfortable in the summer as an airy pair of boat shoes – while unique enough to distinguish you from the pack. The company’s dedication to fair-trade and the craft of heirloom shoemaking can provide another nudge towards these shoes.
