We’re going to steal Rei’s billing of the Mammut Tomyhoi as a jacket-of-all-trades, because that is exactly what it is. This lightweight insulated jacket functions well as both a mid-layer and an outer shell. The outside is a lightweight, durable DRYtech Premium ripstop shell, that is fully seam-taped and waterproof to keep water out, and also repels wind while remaining fully breathable for elevated pursuits and body temperatures. Inside, is a synthetic insulation that is perfectly warm, but totally free of any bulk, packing down to a convenient, packable size. It retains its heat very well in cold weather.
One the front of the jacket is a 2-way Vislon Aquaguard front zip, which has internal wind flaps to seal out the elements. The Napoleon Chest Pocket is watertight, and lets you stash items within easy grabbing distance. Every element is designed to aid in athletic pursuits and mobility; 2-way pit zips with mesh backing, Low-profile hook-and-loop cuffs, and articulated sleeves that give increased freedom of movement. The hood features 3-point adjustment.
There’s some comfy details, too: a soft microfleece behind the neck and around the chin; a taffeta lining, and a quilted interior, both of which make it seem pretty luxurious for a winter jacket.
Grab one while it’s on sale now at REI and take on the slopes in comfy protection.
