This Gravity Weighted Blanket has been making the rounds online recently. Designed to be roughly 10% of your body weight, the Gravity blanket is engineered with a pocketed, gridded design and filled with a dense, plastic poly filling. The design meant to evenly distribute the weight over your body and simulate the feeling of being hugged, which helps stimulate and relax the nervous system. This (in theory) speeds up the release of serotonin and melatonin, and helps decrease cortisol levels, helping you fall asleep faster and sleep longer. This is also supposed to help relieve stress and anxiety.
Weighted blankets have been used in the medical community for a long time, but Gravity claims this is the first one to be available for everyday consumers. The cover is made from a soft, breathable polyester fleece microfiber, while the inner shell is 100% cotton. The High Density Plastic Poly filling is made from polyethylene, and is completely odorless and non-toxic, and can be safely washed and dried.
The Gravity Blanket comes in three weights – 15lbs, 20lbs and 25lbs, allowing you to choose a weight somewhere between 7% and 12% of your body weight. It also measures 48″x72″. As of now, it’s only available via Kickstarter campaign and starts at around $189. It is expected to ship October 2017. If you’re having trouble sleeping at night or relaxing after a stressful day at the office, this may just be missing link you’re looking for.
