We’ve all see some expensive cars out there, but we’ve seen few that can sell for $19 million. Leave it to Bugatti to solve that problem. The Italian luxury automaker is known for making some insanely high-powered, fast vehicles – and expensive ones to boot – but none of them have topped La Voiture Noire.
Bugatti unveiled the La Voiture Noire at the Geneva National Motor Show recently, and the one-off build was a smash hit; it’s new owner bought it for the aforementioned $19m.
It’s based off the elegant Type 57 SC Atlantic, which was in its time the most gorgeous ride ever built; it incorporated aircraft designs for enhanced aerodynamics and a unique, sleek aesthetic, with a dorsal fan running up the middle of the car its signature. The original La Voiture Noire disappeared sometime during WWII (stolen by Germany, legend had is), but has remained something almost mythical in the automotive world.
2019’s version is almost as beautiful, but updated for today’s hypercar crowd. It’s still got the dorsal fun running down the center, but switches everything else out for more modern hardware mot of which is based on the Chiron.
Inside, they’ve outfitted this one-for-the-ages HyperCar with an 8-liter, 16-cylinder engine churning out 1479 horsepower and 1180 lb-ft of torque – the same W16 that’s been powering Bugatti’s best luxury cars for several years.
Further details haven’t been shared – but we imagine this thing has all the suspension, wheels and their goodies it needs to rock on the road. Maybe it’s not the priciest car ever, but it can definitely compete.
