BMW has just announced the newest 8-series – an aggressive reboot of a car last seen in 1999. The BMW 8-Series Coupe was the king of BMW’s line at the time, before being shoved off in favor of the 6-series and lesser models.
BMW Chairman Harald Krüger says that “”The number 8 has always represented the pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity at BMW,” BMW Chairman Harald Krüger The forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand in hand.” And BMW took this aggressively to heart.
In fact, aggressive is the name of the game with the new 8-series Coupe. It has the rear-end reminiscent of a Tesla, powered by real-wheel-drive, and is covered in aggressive angles and vents all over; the front-end looks like a beast, with sharp, pointed laser headlights and a menacing grille. In fact, it the new 8-series appears almost like a crossover between a Tesla and a muscle car, like the Camaro.
But there’s no need to worry, Euro fans. Make no mistake about it, this thing is still a BMW, and the German auto-makers distinctive handiwork is still all over it. BMW worked carbon fiber into almost every facet of this car, with diffusers and intakes made of the stuff.
BMW worked carbon fiber into almost every facet of this car – diffusers and intakes – to even the shells of the two front seats. The interior is of course creamy leather, but is almost minimal, at least compared to BMW’s other high-end cars, like the M3 or M5. There is aluminum and carbon fiber trim all around the cockpit for added style.
BMW just unveiled the new Concept 8-series at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa Este, which occurred this weekend. There’s no word yet on what exactly will be powering this elegant beast, but we can only imagine what BMW has in store.
Expect to see it in showrooms sometime 2018.
