Car enthusiasts, rejoice. The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 is the coolest, fasted and most-powerful 911 to hit the streets yet (street legal 911, that is). Under that classic 911 body and (really tall) spoiler sits a twin-turbo, flat six engine that puts out an unreal 700 horsepower, and over 553 lb-ft of torque — all directly into the rear wheels only. It can go from zero t0 60 in 2.7 seconds, and hits speed up to 22 MPH. Performance is aided by a brand new cooling system and larger turbos, which allow for increased airflow into the chambers. There’s also a custom GT 7-speed PDK transmission.
Not only is that a lot more powerful than any previous 911, but it also comes with the added benefit of a much lighter car; the 2018 comes with an aluminum exhaust system, which shaves 15 pounds off the previous model. The front luggage compartment is carbon fiber, and the roof pane is magnesium – both excellently light materials. There’s also the option of the Weissach package, which includes magnesium wheels and carbon fiber roof and roll bars, as well as axle end links, to the tune of only $31,000 extra. All together, that saves anywhere from 60-100 pounds of weight over last year’s 911.
The interior is Red Alcantara, black leather, and with carbon fiber accents for a fine, sporty look. The seats are both racing buckets, with all the standard, hi-tech audio and navigation, but also boasts of the new Porsche Track Precision, which syncs with your phone and lets you track speed and driving data on the app.
This thing is a beast, and an absolute ton of fun to drive on the road. But of course, with that kind of speed and power, comes great responsibility; if only there were some legal roads to hit up with it. And, of course, if only we could afford it. The 2018 911 GT2 starts at a base price of only $294,000. Only.
