Who said SUV’s can’t be supercars? Certainly not Lamborghini, because they’ve just unveiled the new Urus, an absolute beast of an SUV that boasts a top speed of 190 MPH. In case you’re wondering, that’s 3 MPH more than the Bentley Bentayga, which previously claimed the title of world’s fastest SUV.
The Lamborghini Urus is has a 4.0-liter V8 engine capable of 650 horsepower, with two turbochargers (similar to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo), 627 lb-ft of torque, all channeled through the 8-speed manual transmission into the four-wheel drive, and with the rear-wheel drive straight out of the Aventador S. Lambo claims it can hit 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. There’s an array of 6 different preset driving modes, including the new EGO customizable mode. And it is Lamborghini, so handling should be excellent whether on the road or off; it has a ground clearance of 6.2 inches that goes up to 9.8 using the new air suspension system, and a torque-vectoring rear differential and a Torsen center differential for flexible rigidity.
The exterior of the Urus is pure Lambo; aggressive and stylish, with lines that look like the Gallardo and Aventador, but more elongated and spacious. It’s got four doors, four seats, and curb weight is 4850 pounds. The interior looks much like a Lambo sportscar, but more luxurious, and again, much more spacious. The center-console mounted controller is called the Tamburo, and allows you to choose your driving mode; Tamburo means drum.
Is a Lamborghini SUV what we really need? With everybody from Porsche to Bentley getting on the luxury, super SUV game, it’s only a given Lamborghini would try to get in on the action and make their mark. That’s the way car-buying trends are going. We’re excited to see this thing, for sure. Available Spring 2018, and will retail for a cool $200,000.
