All Topo Designs apparel and gear is handmade in Colorado, with a design rooted in old-timey, classic pieces of mountain gear, but also built with the demands the modern adventurer in mind. The Klettersack is one such piece.
The Topo Designs Klettersack uses the classic “klettersack” design; klettersack means “climbing bag” or “scrambling sack” in German, though we’re not sure where the term comes from. (It definitely looks like something you might have seen hiking in the Alps of yesteryear). The shape is durable and streamlined, a large, rectangular shape measuring 12″w x 19″h x 6″d and boasting 22 liters of internal space. It’s constructed from tough, durable 1000D Cordura on the outside, and lined with coated pack on the inside. This liner is waterproof and ensures all your goods stay dry all the time.
Leather lash tabs on the outside keep it closed tight, and let you attach additional gear with a loop or cord. All the straps are reinforced with seatbelt webbing. The internal laptop sleeve can fit a 17” laptop, the zippered top pocket lets you stash items and gear easily, and there are side pockets for water bottles and anything else you need.
The Topo Designs Klettersack comes in 13 different colors and fabrics, so you can be sure to find one you like. And as we mentioned – it’s handmade in Colorado, and we appreciate anything that’s made right here in the USA.
It’s not the lightest backpack we’ve seen, or the most hi-tech. But overall, it’s a great, durable daypack that works for just about anything – hiking, traveling, the daily commute. And the style is a bit old-fashioned without being too gimmicky. And we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much gear 22 liters can hold. If classic and simple is what you’re looking for, it’s a worthy choice.
